Woburn Abbey

Set in a 3,000 acre deer park, Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Russell family for nearly 400 years. A tour reveals history dating back to 1145, when the abbey was a religious house for a group of Cistercian monks. See the state dining room, bedrooms used by a succession of visiting monarchs and the vaults which contain the family’s precious collection of silver and gold.
The Abbey lies at the heart of an Estate whose activities are many and varied, with a world renowned Golf Club, the Safari Park, the Inn at Woburn and the Woburn Abbey Antiques Centre.
Woburn Abbey Gardens
Woburn Abbey Gardens were first designed over 200 years ago by Humphrey Repton. Make your way through approximately 30 acres of serene formal and natural garden environments: from manicured lawns and colourful flower beds to peaceful woodland glades and ponds teeming with life.

Woburn Abbey – Birthplace of Afternoon Tea!
This English Tradition is said to have originated in the 1830s by Duchess Anna Maria, wife of the 7th Duke, who entertained her friends in the Blue Drawing Room at Woburn Abbey.  She felt it was a very long time between luncheon and dinner and afternoon tea helped bridge the gap.

Pre-book your Duchess Anna Maria Afternoon tea at the Duchess’ Tea Room or at the Inn at Woburn in the heart of the Georgian village.
