The Brewhouse Yard Museum of Nottingham Life

brewhouse yard museum.jpg
Housed in five 17th century cottages adjacent to the famous ‘Trip to Jerusalem’ public house, the Brewhouse Yard Museum of Nottingham Life depicts the social history of Nottingham over the last 300 years, with a mixture of reconstructed room and shop settings, and gallery displays.

Experience being in a Victorian home, see inside a child’s bedroom, root through the cupboards in the kitchen and pump water.
Numerous shops throughout the museum include an Edwardian grocery shop and a Victorian chemist’s. A 1920’s shopping experience is recreated in a row of shops including a barbershop, pawn shop, ironmongers, doctors, cobblers and music shop.
You can also see the unusual rock-cut caves at the rear of the buildings that were converted for use as air raid shelters during the Second World War.
The museum shop is open from 10.00am – 4.00pm daily and stocks a wide range of old style toys, games and musical instruments. Light refreshments are available.
