8. Norwich Cathedral

Top 10 ten – Norwich and around

Norwich Cathedral

Norwich’s magnificent Romanesque Cathedral is set in beautiful grounds and is an awe-inspiring and welcoming building, with spectacular architecture, magnificent art and a fascinating history.
Look out for the Despenser Reredos, a superb painted panel commissioned to celebrate the crushing of the Peasants’ Revolt in 1381, and intricate carving in the cloisters of the Apocalypse and pagan green men and fertility symbols.

There is also a licensed restaurant beside the cloisters, housed within a striking modern building that has won numerous design and architecture awards. The Cathedral hosts a wide variety of orchestral concerts, choral concerts, jazz ensembles and lectures.
